Alan Pardew will attempt to lure Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner to Newcastle United with the promise of regular first team football. The Danish international has slipped down the Gunners pecking order and has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium and the Magpies boss hopes to be able to persuade him to move to St James’ Park.
Newcastle United are thought to be ready to offer up to £10m for the former giant striker and have made him the club’s number one target this summer to replace Andy Carroll, who was sold to Liverpool for £35m last month.
Pardew hopes that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley will give him sufficient funds in the summer to help improve his squad and in particular his attacking options. Currently the club have to rely on the Leon Best, Peter Lovenkrands, Nile Ranger, Shefki Kuqi and Shola Ameobi to provide the fire-power but none of the quartet could be considered prolific marksman.
Bendtner has seen his chances at Arsenal limited with the arrival last summer of Moroccan international Marouane Chamakh who is seemingly Arsene Wenger’s second choice to Dutch international Robin Van Persie, pushing the 23 year old into third choice starter as a club that tends to play with one up front.
Nicklas Bendtner has scored 40 times for Arsenal in 145 appearances, of which 69 were coming from the bench.
