Newcastle Linked With French Defensive Midfielder

Here’s another player Newcastle are said to be interested in to add to the growing list.
Benoit Pedretti – 30 year old French defensive midfielder
And since it’s a player we haven’t yet reviewed on the web-site, here’s a piece on Auxerre star Benoit Pedretti.
The thing that comes out immediately is that the defensive midfielder, who has played for France 22 times, is just too old at 30.
Ashley wants players brought in who will appreciate in value at Newcastle, and the club will help them improve to their full capabilities, so Benoit just doesn’t fit that profile.
The exceptions to that is when the club haven’t got to pay out a transfer fee, which is why Newcastle may be interested in likely free agent, Johan Elmander, the Bolton striker this summer.
Reports coming out of France, say the League One side are resigned to selling the midfielder in the summer, and Fulham are also said to be interested.
Pedretti started his professional career at Sochaux, and played there from 1999 to 2004, and he then played one season at Marseilles, before he played at Lyon.
He joined Auxerre in 2006, and has played over 140 times for the French club and has 18 months left on his current contract, and is valued at £6M.
We’d be very very surprised if this player is a Newcastle target this summer, and there’s just no way Newcastle would pay out £6M for a 30 year-old.

Auxerre captain Benoit Pedretti is being linked with a summer Premier League move. Pedretti, 30, is a defensive midfielder and has been with Auxerre for over five years.
Fulham boss Mark Hughes is interested in the midfielder, while Newcastle scout Graham Carr has been spotted at Auxerre games in recent weeks.
Auxerre rate their skipper in the €7 million class.
