Alan Pardew Is Proving Us Very Wrong – And That’s Good!

Alan Pardew will try to win every single game of the  11 games left in the Premier League.

Well that’s good to hear, but we’d be disappointed if he did anything less than that.
We are not big believers in teams that go away from home, and play for a draw, because to us that’s just cutting the number of points you are playing for, and at least this season anything seems possible in the Premier League.
Those same teams probably would have just given up if they found themselves 4-0 down at home to Arsenal after 26 minutes – they would have gone into damage limitation as the  TV commentators are so fond of talking about.
Damage limitation is that you give up trying to win, but try to limit the loss to be at least respectable – how’s that for positive thinking and courageous play?
Who could ever have thought that Newcastle could win at the Emirates last year, and end up taking a full 4 points from the Arsenal? You have to think that it’s possible first,  before you can make it possible.
And it was good to see Arsenal beat Stoke 1-0 at the Emirates last night, which keeps Stoke 2 points behind Newcastle, with each having played 27 games.
Stoke could have moved above the Magpies with a win, and we still have to play at Stoke on March 19th, so that will be a big game.
By now we all know that the Bolton game is really important and looks even like a watershed game, and a win could see Newcastle really in the business of qualifying for Europe – amazing though that seems.
This is what Pardew said today:

“In most games we have been very competitive and got good results,”
“That’s what you have to do at a club like this. Whoever the opposition is. If it is Man United on April 16, I expect to win. I would expect us to win any game regardless of what team we put out.
“Best and Lovenkrands, you could argue, are our third and fourth choice when we had Carroll and Shola fit. Now Shola has a fight to get back in the team. That’s how it should be.”

As it turns out we think the lads will have a very decent chance of beating the Red Devils, because they have looked half the team away form Old Trafford this season.
And we will be a great opportunity for the lads to show what they are made of – and we should also be able to field our very best team, with any luck.
It seems to us that Alan Pardew is taking to the Newcastle manager position like a duck to water, and he seems perfectly fitted with his personality to be Newcastle manager.
He’s turned out to be a much better coach than we thought he was, and he seems to be doing some good things with the organization of the club on the playing side, and at least we’ll now have under-soil heating next season at the Benton training grounds.
We suspect he’s just like Chris Hughton before him, and he’s been inspired by the tremendous passion that is associated with the club on Tyneside, and around the world for that matter.
We hope so, because we were expecting nothing from the man when he arrived in December, but so far he’s proved us very wrong and is doing a very decent job.
And all credit to him for that.
