Ireland Back For Everton Clash

Ireland Back For Everton Clash

Stephen Ireland - Manchester City
It has been confirmed today by the toon boss Alan Pardew that the toon star Stephen Ireland will make his full toon debut against Everton at St.James Park this Saturday. The player is currently on loan from Aston Villa and after his long term injury he will replace the current injured stat Joey Barton. This is what the boss told us on the situation: “Stephen actually wanted to play against Bolton and now he could make his debut against Everton.”
He continued: “It depends on Joey. Ryan is suspended for sure and Stephen has a great opportunity. He sent me a text on Saturday saying: ‘I’m ready to play’. He knew Joey got injured in training and, fair play to him, you want players who are desperate to play. No it’s not precautionary. He is a doubt for next week against Everton. It’s a huge blow. We’ll have Stephen and Shola back next week and be better for it. Hopefully we’ll have Joey back, but we’ll see.”

Cheik Tioté reveals he rejected move to Chelsea

Cheik Tioté reveals he rejected move to Chelsea in January window

Cheik Tioté takes a breather against Arsenal.
Tioté - Opted to stay at Newcastle United in January despite Chelsea interest
In an interview with a Sunday tabloid Cheik Tioté revealed why he opted to stay at Newcastle United and sign a 6.5 year long deal.
Tioté who we know already is one of Newcastle United’s best players this season signed from FC Twente for a small fee of £3.5m, compared to what he is worth at this moment in time. He played his part in the World Cup with Ivory Coast and to be honest; that is where I personally first heard of him. I didn’t know what a gem of player we were really getting until his first 5-7 performances or so.
Interestingly, Tioté also revealed he turned down the chance to join Chelsea in the last transfer window which confirms something: he wants to play for Newcastle United.
In my last article I questioned how passionate or loyal Tioté actually was to Newcastle United but if the rumours are  true and he did indeed reject a big money move to Chelsea then I hold my hands up. The only question I really have is whether an official bid for the Ivorian was made on Chelsea’s part, or was Cheik only relating to the rife speculation at the time?
Could you imagine what a transfer window it would have been if we had lost Cheik on top of Carroll? No doubt we would have banked something in the region of £50m combined, but we would be in a much worse situation than we are now had the former Anderlecht man departed for London.
It is somewhat disheartening to up his wages to a what is now a reported £50,000 a week but if players are performing week in week out then they deserve their money – Alex Ferguson will tell you that every day of the week.
INdeed Tioté has been performing well and long may it continue in a Newcastle United shirt.
As well as all of this, there are lingering reports in France that NUFC have had minor discussions with Lille over a summer transfer for Gervinho. The Lille forward, who is an international team-mate of Cheik Tioté is available for around the £10m mark – which is a risk but if he can play to his potential then he’ll be a big big star at Newcastle United FC.
£10m is a lot of money for NUFC but if we secure our Premier League status, which looks increasingly likely; we’ll have the finances to fund a deal like this and perhaps a couple more in the same region.
We have £35m plus add-ons to spend from Big Andy’s transfer and Alan Pardew has told us over and over again that all of it will be spent on the team and indeed new signings.
If we can recruit players like Tioté, Ben Arfa, Simpson then we’ll have a very bright future indeed and that’s even before I mention the young homegrown players we have breaking through the ranks ourselves.

Spanish left-back Jose Enrique has had his agent checking out "interested European clubs", suggesting he is set to leave St James' Park in the summer.

Enrique is attracting the attention of some of Europe's biggest clubs, including Barcelona and AC Milan.
His current contract at St James' Park expires at the end of next season and he has told Magpies boss Alan Pardew he will not discuss a new deal until the summer ... suggesting he wants to leave.
Allegedly Liverpool are said to be preparing a £6 million bid for a player but the agent of the 25-year-old has already met with AC Milan officials and held positive talks about a possible move.
Having already seen Andy Carroll leave, Jonas Gutierrez said to be "considering his future", and Joey Barton suggesting he is not convinced Mike Ashley will re-invest the £35m in team building, there are black clouds growing over Gallowgate.
But Ashley, who insists he WILL buy in the summer, has signed up Cheik Tiote on a new six-and-a-half-year deal.

Tiote Loves Newcastle And Hates London

Cheik Tiote
Today the toon star Cheik Tiote has told the press why he stayed on Tyneside after being linked with a move to Chelsea. He has today looked back at his move to Tyneside and what he thinks of the people and club, this is what he said: “If you come to a new club in a new country it is important there is a good atmosphere at the club. As soon as I arrived here the players made me welcome. They helped me settle in and meant I could do a good job on the pitch. Newcastle life is good for me.”
He contnued: “It is not like London, London is too busy, there are too many people. Newcastle is not so busy. That makes it easier to focus on your job. For me it is important. I would like to be here for a few years. I can learn here. I feel settled here. I enjoy it here. The fans are good and the new manager likes me. The club has looked after me and I do my best for the team and the fans.”
The star went on to comment on his childhood, a star who left school at the age of 14 to become a footballer: “I made sacrifices to be a player I had to leave my family, my six brothers and three sisters. It was so difficult.”Now I have a better life and I am happy for that but I had to be focused. In Africa the young boys want to go out all the time, they want to do something different. But for me the being different was to make it as a professional. To do that I had to leave that life. Going back would have been like saying, ‘I lose’. I don’t do losing. I want to win every challenge, every tackle, anything. When I was little my dad told me, ‘If you want to have something in your life, you have to work hard’. My dad is dead now but I think he would be proud of me.”

Newcastle Open Negotiations For Lille’s Gervinho

11:22 am, Sunday, February 27th, 2011 by Ed Harrison · 6 Comments

There’s some good news today coming from French sources, that Newcastle United have already started preliminary negotiations with French club Lille to acquire 23 year-old Gervinho.

Gervinho - Newcastle open negotiations for player

The reports are saying that the famous Newcastle club have opened tentative negotiations, as they look to tie up the £10M rated Ivory Coast International.
And with Cheick Tiote committing himself to the club on Friday, you have to think that our midfield dynamo can persuade his Ivory Coast team-mate to join him on Tyneside – we hope so anyway.
Gervinho can play on either wing or as a striker, and from what we can tell he looks like he could become an excellent buy for the Newcastle club.
Gervinho is said to be one of a number of striker targets being considered by Newcastle, but he has to be near or at the top of the list,  for Newcastle to start negotiations now.
This is not the first time Newcastle have been linked with the Ivory Coast International, who has 19 caps and  5 goals for his country, and who was also interesting other clubs last month.
Lille wanted to keep the player through the end of the season,  to help them win the French League,  and the side are currently second top of the French league, just one point behind Rennes with a game in hand.  Lille entertain Lyon this afternoon, who are in 4th place.
Gervinho has scored 23 goals in 53 games for the French club, and 10 goals in 21 games so far this season.
Gervinho turns 24 in May, and started his career at Belgium club Bevern in 2005, and moved to French club Le Mans in 2007, before joining Lille in 2009.
The 5’11″ player has over 165 first class appearances in his career, and has scored over 40 goals.
Since his contract runs out in 16 months,  Newcastle may be able to get a decent deal for the player, and we’d be surprised if the fee is as much as £10M.
We have to hope that we can tie up one or two of our major targets before the end of the season.

Ten-man Toon held by Trotters

Sturridge: Celebrates equaliser
Sturridge: Celebrates equaliser
Daniel Sturridge's fourth goal in as many games was only enough to claim a point for Bolton as 10-man Newcastle held out for a 1-1 draw.
The striker, on loan from Chelsea, struck seven minutes before the break in Saturday's St James' Park clash to cancel out the lead former Wanderers midfielder Kevin Nolan had given the Magpies with his 11th of the season with 13 minutes gone.
But an open game shifted firmly Bolton's way with Ryan Taylor's 54th-minute dismissal for a two-footed challenge on Johan Elmander.
Taylor was making just his fifth appearance of the season on his return from an ankle ligament injury, but his rush of blood left Newcastle hanging on for a dear life.
The draw ended Bolton's run of six successive Premier League away defeats and extended the Magpies' run to one loss in nine.
In Sturridge, Bolton had a deserving candidate for man of the match as he caused problems for the off.
Fabricio Coloccini repeatedly needed the help of full-back Jose Enrique to keep the striker at bay, although the Spaniard had his own hands full with Elmander, who caused such problems during the Magpies 5-1 defeat at the Reebok Stadium in November, playing in a wide midfield role.
But Newcastle gave as good as they got in a thrilling first half, during which play switched rapidly from end to end.
The home side took the lead with 13 minutes gone, and yet again, it was Nolan who did the trick.
Not for the first time, he demonstrated his knack of finding space inside a crowded penalty area to meet Cheick Tiote's driven cross, and his deft header was too good for Jussi Jaaskelainen.
The Finn had kept out Peter Lovenkrands' near-post flick seconds earlier, and later needed David Wheater's help to prevent Leon Best's shot ending up in the back of the net.
Best headed a Taylor free-kick just over the bar with 28 minutes gone. The former Wigan man was a late replacement for Joey Barton, who suffered an injury during the warm-up.
Only a last-ditch tackle by full-back Marcos Alonso denied Taylor seconds later - but Sturridge continued to look the man most likely to drag Bolton back into the game, and he did just that seven minutes before the break.
A rare mistake from Tiote allowed Elmander to find the striker, and he shifted the ball on to his left foot before shooting unerringly into the bottom corner.
Lovenkrands helped a Tiote effort just over the bar and Nolan bravely blocked an Elmander drive as the half drew to a close.
Jaaskelainen was back in action within three minutes of the restart after Enrique spun away from Elmander with ease before surging into the penalty area and unleashing a powerful shot.
However, Alonso fired over from 20 yards and Steve Harper had to get down well to claim Gary Cahill's deflected drive as Bolton responded.
But the momentum shifted significantly with 54 minutes gone when Taylor launched himself at Elmander and was dismissed by referee Chris Foy, who had little choice but to produce the red card.
Bolton instantly sensed an opportunity and committed more men to the search for a winner, and Coloccini and Mike Williamson found themselves firmly in the firing line as they were forced to deal with a series of dangerous crosses.
Lovenkrands dropped into the wide midfield berth vacated by Taylor to leave Best alone up front, and there was little the former Coventry man could do to help stem the tide.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew made his move with 23 minutes remaining when he sent on central defender Steven Taylor for Jonas Gutierrez and striker Nile Ranger for Lovenkrands, and went to a back three.
Ranger headed over from Taylor's 70th-minute cross, but it took a priceless goal-line clearance from Nolan to keep out Martin Petrov's effort five minutes later.
There was late drama when Jaaskelainen had to scuttle across his line to collect the ball after Paul Robinson had chested Best's cross a little too firmly towards goal.

Alan Pardew Not Happy With Referee Performance

6:11 pm, Saturday, February 26th, 2011 by Ed Harrison · 37 Comments

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was not too happy with referee Chris Foy, after the 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park this afternoon.

Alan Pardew – unhappy with referee – who was continually booed by fans

Newcastle had been reduced to 10 men early in the second half, after Foy had sent off Ryan Taylor after 54 minutes, but Pardew had no qualms with that decision, but thought he let the crowd sway his performance after that decision.
The game ended level after first half goals from Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan, his 11th of the season, and on loan-striker Daniel Sturridge for Bolton.
Ryan Taylor was sent off for a two-footed lunge on Johan Elmander, and that’s not allowed in today’s game, but Pardew didn’t argue with that specific decision.
Ryan Taylor had started the game on the right wing, after Joey Barton had injured himself during the warm up to the game, and at this point we don’t know the extent of Joey’s injury.
This is what Alan said after the game to Sky Sports:
“I thought the referee was a little bit antagonistic to the home team.” “I think sometimes referees, when the crowd gets on them, it doesn’t work in your favor.”
“I think that is human nature. I don’t mean any criticism of the referee, I just genuinely think he got wrapped up in it a little bit.”
“The crowd were booing him and he was like, ‘okay, that looks like another one to the opposition’.”
“It was no reflection on the result. I’m not trying to hide behind that.”
It was a frustrating afternoon for Alan Pardew as again his side were so close to getting a memorable victory, even with 10 men, but  had to settle for just the one point.
At some point this season,. our lads will get a little bit of luck and score a winner a minute into injury time, or something like that.
Actually Nile Ranger did score with a great header in injury time today, but he was ruled to be offside.
But on the positive side,  Newcastle are still within striking distance of Bolton, just one point behind the Trotters, and gained another point  on local rivals Sunderland, who lost their fourth game running at Everton today, and look to be in a slump.
We always like to end on some good news. :D
